Therapeutic Relaxation Massage
The Therapeutic Relaxation Massage is Shanti’s most popular and signature style of bodywork. The experience is designed for those who what to relax AND get relief from on-going physical, physiological or emotional pain. It’s an incorporation of any medical massage modality with relaxation techniques and the added touch of the therapist’ “flare” (see below). Sometimes a session heavily leans toward treatment while others lean toward relaxation while others lean toward inner stillness and deep listening. In each case, it’s the therapists’ intention to balance the session based on your needs and goals for that day.
Therapist “Flare”
Therapists have an array of personal options to include when crafting a session for you such as reiki, essential oils, hot stones, hot packs and/or towels, ice packs, tuning forks and other forms of vibration such as drumming and toning, playing your favorite music, etc.
Deep Tissue Massage
At Shanti deep tissue is referring to a process that is more about communication than it is pressure. Accuracy alone can change the sensation of what feels deep and what doesn’t. The amount of lotion and speed can also change the sensation of what feels deep and what doesn’t. We use this process because it is results driven. With the right calibration of touch (pressure), accuracy, the right speed and the right amount of lotion there is a feedback loop thru the central nervous system to our conscious awareness that feels like pressure. It feels deep, significant and satisfying.
Precision Neuromuscular Massage Therapy
Precision NMT is an advanced method of soft-tissue therapy for the relief of muscular discomfort. The principles supporting this modality focus on “why” we are doing “what” we are doing and “precision” vs “pressure” to facilitate neurological changes. Because this modality is slow and meticulous, it allows therapist to find and treat restrictions such as trigger points and scar tissue all while you relax into the relief.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are localized spots in the muscles that have become highly irritable and produce symptoms of weakness as well as producing sensations including referred pain, feeling of pins and needles and numbness. Your therapist can incorporate this treatment into any style of massage.
Myofascial Release
– the John F. Barnes, PT Approach
Myofascial Release is one of the true forms of natural and holistic therapy for many disorders (see link below). Fascia is an amazing fluid “web” of highly specialized connective tissue which spans our body three-dimensionally, uninterrupted, from head to toe. Through physical and emotional trauma, adhesions and bracing patterns with internal pressure of up to 2,000 pounds per square inch can produce crushing pressure on vital structures such as organs, nerves and blood vessels. When this occurs, symptoms begin to surface. By applying science-based principles to the system, the mind/body complex resolves the restrictions from the root level resulting in a balanced state of health.

CranioSacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a light-touch therapy designed for the care of the central nervous system. The work evolved out of Cranial Osteopathy from the insights, research and practice of William Garner Sutherland, D.O. It releases tensions deep in the body allowing the entire body to relax and self correct. It is considered to be the deepest aspect of the myofascial system and is ultimately related to, influences, and is influenced by every system of the body (nervous, musculoskeletal, vascular, lymphatic, endocrine and respiratory). When the central nervous system is free of tension, overall health and well-being is enhanced.
Barefoot Ashiatsu
Barefoot deep tissue massage, also known as Ashiatsu, is a massage technique that dates back as far as the 12th century. Massaging the body with the feet is a hallmark of bodywork throughout India, Japan, China, Thailand, Africa and the Philippines. These techniques are ideal for those who desire a gratifying and results-driven treatment, those who have chronic lower and upper back pain, and those who can never get enough pressure in a massage. Clients seeking improved posture and movement, pain relief and a state of well-being, should consider Ashiatsu.
